Belly Casting Frequently Asked Questions
(see below for Kiddy-casting)
How long does the process take?
Making your initial cast will take you about half an hour - but allow plenty of time as you don't want to rush the process. Finishing and decorating the kit will take as long as you want it to. But the Blooming Belly kit makes the process easy as you have all the resources and instructions on hand to finish your cast.
Can I make a cast of my own belly, or do I need someone to do it for me?
You will definitely need someone to place the plaster strips on your belly for you. It's fiddly to do it to yourself even when you don't have a big bump.
When in my pregnancy should I get a Precious Puku belly-cast?
It’s totally up to you, but usually women like to get a belly-cast between their 30th and 38th week – it’s best to get a cast when you’ve got quite a big belly to show off!
What kind of products do you include? Are they safe for my baby?
We use a completely natural Beeswax, Olive Oil and Propolis balm as a barrier cream (as opposed to the alternative of Vaseline) The plaster-strips are very high quality medical-grade, and are totally safe during pregnancy.
My boobs are huge and floppy! I’m scared they would look funny in a cast, is there anything I can do about that?
You are not alone, this is a common concern! Don’t worry – there are plenty of things you can do to help you feel more comfortable (and supported) during the casting. You could choose to wear a bra under your cast – preferably not your best one as it will get quite plastery, or we could wrap you soft piece of fabric under and around your breasts to give them some support. Adopting a position with your arms slightly up and resting on something during the casting might also help you feel more comfortable. Also - the flowers and butterflies included in the Bloooming Belly kit can be placed over the breasts of your finished cast - which can make them a bit less on display! And remember, you don’t have to do your full torso, belly-casts of just your puku look great too.
Since I’ve been pregnant I’ve got hair on my belly / boobs! Does that mean I can’t do a belly-cast?
Again, you are not alone! Hormones can do weird things when you're pregnant. You put a bit of glad-wrap over any really hairy bits, (you can even plaster over your pubic area like this if you want your cast to go down to the top of your thighs) but if you just have a bit of hair the barrier-cream works very well to ensure you don’t get a wax at the same time as a belly-cast!
How much does a belly kit cost?
See the Buy Now page.

Kiddy-casting Frequently Asked Questions
How old does my child have to be to do a casting?
They need to be able to sit still as you apply the warm, wet plaster strips for about 10 – 15minutes. Most kids aren’t able to do thus until they are about 3. Doing it in front of the telly can help!
If my child moves when I am doing it will it be ruined?
Little movements are usually fine, but if they do a big wriggle you may have to start again. There is enough plaster gauze included for you to be able to do this.
We love the idea of kiddy-casting and wondered if we could sell them through our local kindy / school / playcentre… as a fundraiser. Do you do that?
We would love to provide you with casting-kits in bulk and discuss how you could use them to earn money for your group. Give us a call!
Do you sell casting-kits through shops?
Not yet, but we are interested in retail opportunities. Give us a call if you would like to stock Precious Puku kits.
